Vassilios Vescoukis was born in Athens in 1967. He graduated from the public high school "Ionidios Model School of Piraeus" in 1985. Received the diploma degree and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, in 1991 and 1996 respectively. Served in the Hellenic Air Force in 1996-1997. |

In 1987 he co-founded a software development, systems support and consulting firm, where he worked as software developer and consultant until 1991. Since then, he works as a freelance expert consultant in the domain of software development, quality assurance, technical constructions cost evaluation, as well as project planning and management. He has worked for several large organisations if both public and private sectors in Hellas, such as universities, secondary level educational institutions, telecommunications firms and public works technical construction firms. Dr Vescoukis worked as special advisor of the rector of NTUA prof. N.Markatos in the domain of strategic planning of technical education, as well as special advisor of the rector prof. T.Xanthopoulos in the domain of information systems. His name is among the referees of the international journals "IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering" and "ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology". He has been member of the scientific committees of several international conferences. Authored more than 50 research articles in international books, journals and conferences, as well as two textbooks currently used as the main course material for Software Engineering in the Hellenic Open University. He has taught several courses in the National Technical University of Athens, both in pre- and post- graduate level, in the University of Piraeus, as well as in the Hellenic National Public Administration School and in numerous firms of the private sector. He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, of the Panhellenic Association of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, of the Hellenic Computer Society, as well as of IEEE and ACM. He has been elected chairman of the NTUA Post-Graduate Student Union for two subsequent years. Has been a member of the NTUA University Council and several administrational boards for four years. Dr Vescoukis is fluent in Greek (mother tongue), English and Italian and has basic knowledge of French and German. He likes spending his free time driving, playing the piano, digital photography, writing and traveling. Since 1996 he is a consulting editor in highly-accredited Hellenic Business Computing publications, such as OPEN Newsletter, NET Letter and New Economy Observer. He is the author of numerous articles about technology, network society, professional rights in the computing business, and globalization. Among his professional interests are the strategic planning of information systems, applications and services, of e-commerce applications and frameworks, the use of new technology in education, as well as the design, management and certification of large information systems. His research interests include knowledge bases for software evolution, geographical software applications, distributed and multi-tier software architectures, network-based support for education and training, and implications of globalization and new technology in society and economy. |
