Skafidia
A view from the hills of SkafidiaSkafidia is a small village 12 kilometres far from Pyrgos, build at the slope of a hill and near the sea (at a distance of 1 kilometre). A second village grew the last years next to Skafidia, the Panorama made up of summer houses. Skafidia owes its name to the monastery of 'Panagia Skafidiotissa', which is build at the foothill, under the village. This monastery is quite old with great walls and embrasures, build around it, to defend against pirates.
At a small distance, west of the monastery, are the camping installations of Skafidia,Camp Installations at Skafidia at the edge of a small, beautiful holly forest. The camp was used by the state, but since late 70's returned to the church of Ilia. Today it is used as the main camp site of Pyrgos' and other regions' Scouts and is used also by the church to host guests from various countries.
